| Relations | One of the signature members of the Treaty of Confederation, Tuth is on the the best of terms with all Realms. As the heart of the Confederation, both geographically as well as politically, it has tried to remain impartial and unprejudiced. Tuth is the only Realm of the Confederation other than Edilar that allows elves to have permanent residence within their borders. | ||||||
| Government Structure | The government structure of Tuth is exactly
like that of Lithar. Both are a monarchy with a provision of rule
that they have three advisors that they must listen to in the matters of
great import to the kingdom. This provision was instated at the time
of both current kings' succession to their thrones. Lithar and Tuth
were once one realm, only known as Tuth. The King, Paldrin Zaine,
found the kingdom becoming too large for any one person to rule justly.
When it became apparent to him he had not much longer to live he divided
the realm into two, naming one with the ancient name of Lithar. He
gave Tuth to his oldest son Igor, and the newly-renamed Lithar to the younger
Tanis. They were made king of each realm, and on coronation signed
a pact with the people that they would rule justly and under advisement
of the most capable advisors each realm had to offer.
The King Igor Zaine serves as the overall leader
of the kingdom. He has appointed 3 advisors to keep track of different
aspects of the kingdom and advise him at need. They are:
In addition to these three, the King's Imperial Archmage, Llael Darkmoon, serves as an expert on the metaphysical and arcane. He accompanies the advisors and king in case they are in need of his services. Once each month, or more often if there is
a pressing matter, the advisors and the king hold an audience in the Hall
of Power at the Royal Castle in Tuth's capitol. During these audiences,
individuals may come and express their concerns or plead their case over
any matter. Only a few non-important cases will be heard and adjudicated
by the king each meeting, but any cases dealing with state business will
be decided at this time. Connections and favors are used to get certain
cases moved to the top of the docket. Because King Zaine feels that
the Elves are important to the Confederation, he is more likely to hear
any complaints being brought forth by elves over others, though the elves
do this rarely, so it is not seen as favoritism.
Tuth is a feudal society, with nobles owning most of the lands, and the King owning the greatest part of freely held lands. Though slavery is illegal, there is a state of being bond servant, similar to that of a serf, that work the lands of the nobles in payment for the use of their land, and a promise to work those lands for profit. Many bondsmen are indebted to the nobles for their entire life. Traditionally, Tuth wass divided into baronies
that are ruled by knights sworn to the service of Tuth and the king.
Each of these barons control lands, either inherited or from building a
castle or stronghold, and many have private men-at-arms to protect them.
The barons pay taxes to the Realm and their king for the right to rule
these lands.
Declaration of Nobility
The House of Dromon
The House of Dromon is currently one of the
most powerful noble houses in Tuth and will in fact retain the crown should
the Zaine family fall. The House obtained it’s power by buying in
shares of Keytown and becoming active members of the trade coming in and
going out of Keytown. Initially their main trade was in small cargo
but since then they have branched out as their power grew. Although not
directly in control of the House of Mirman, the Dromon’s hold much sway
over them, using their trading connections to grow in power. The
House of Dromon does however own Hawk’s Perch Trading Company and holds
sway with many other merchant companies, hiring out it’s body guards for
caravan protection. Since they have come into power in Keytown the
House of Dromon has provided the people with a fair and just rule, as such
the house is well liked. Despite having lost the town during the
mage wars the House of Dromon did not loose much face due to the overwhelming
odds against the town.
The House of Mandrake
The House of Mandrake acquired its title when Igor Zaine married Shyleen
Mandrake. Although not politically strong at the time, the Mandrake’s
had a vast amount of wealth. Since the adoption into the Royal Family
the Mandrake Family has given itself airs and has caused quite a commotion
in Cobbersoninatown and Windtown. Today the Mandrakes are but now
regaining the backing of the people. With the marriage into the Zaine
family the House largely neglected the town. With the recent coupe
and the accession of Lord Mandrake II the people have begun to accept the
Mandrakes as their lord.
The House of Iralell
The House of Iralell is the most ambitious
of all the noble houses, some say that they will not stop until they themselves
are crowned king. When Tuth became an independent nation the House
of Iralell kept its political power and contacts with Ruch and became the
second largest house in Tuth. With King Zaine’s placement of the
House they lost a bit of power and grew spiteful of the King until they
were reimbursed. Today all their time is spent trying to build Springsoninatown
Forge into a large trading center that would rival Keytown.
The House of Baelon
The House of Baelon has ruled Mountainsoninatown
since the independence of Tuth. Although Mountainsoninatown is considered
to be a Dwarven town it is ruled by the Baelons using the advice of the
Dwarves. Having gleaned somewhat of a sense of Dwarven honor themselves,
the House of Baelon rules with an iron fist, imposing strict rules and
harsh penalties when they are broken. As such they have helped build
the impression of a very peaceful city when viewed upon by others.
The House of Baelon deeply hopes to create a permanent trade route to Khardfee
so that they may receive quality goods from the Dwarven master smiths.
The House of Kronidar
The House of Kronidar has ruled in Windtown since
the Declaration of Nobility. Since the relocation of the capital
the old palace in Windtown became the palace of Kronidar. The Kronidars
have a lot of influence in Khardfee and has made the city of Windtown very
prosperous from trade to Lithar and Khardfee. The House is dying,
as many of its descendants were killed during the last Great War.
The House of Calthorn
The House of Calthorn was a very prosperous merchant
house of Tuth before its independence. During the last mage war they
played a key part in the reclamation of Keytown from the Syth and, for
their loyal service Igor Zaine appointed them rulers of Coopersville Forge.
Although Coopersville Forge is the home of the Confederacy the Calthorns
do not act on behalf of the Zaines and merely carry out all business pertaining
to the city itself.
Though there is no state church in Tuth, The Church of The Creator holds great power over both political and secular matters within the Realm. The Royal Palace of historic Tuth is located in Windtown. But this is not where the current seat of government is located. The government and king were relocated in Keytown at the time of the Third Mage War and has remained there since. The Third Mage War has yet to be decalred over and so the realm is still considered in a state of war. Because of this, the government and King of Tuth works very closely with the Emperor and the authority of the Confederation. |
