Relations      The Treaty of Confederation links all six Realms of Thardferr in mutual defense and non-aggression.  The purpose of the Confederation is to unit and guide all the Realms in mutual protection against attacks from outside the Confederation and as a mediator between conflicts that arise between the signature Realms.  It also establishes a common currency and promotes the teaching of a common trade tongue to allow for better communication and free trade throughout the six Realms.
     Certain Realm-wide laws, such as the Freedom of Movement and Open Borders Act, the Registration of Magic Users and Formation of the Imperial Mages Guild, and a Confederation Emergency Support Levy were part of the Treaty and are enforced by The Order of the Sword, the Confederation's policing authority.  When Edilar joined the Confederation they signed the Treaty of Mutual Defense and Non-Aggression but none of the other amendments mentioned above.
     The signature Realms, in order of signing the Treaty of Confederation are:
Tuth;
Khardfee;
Alderd;
Edilar (Only signed the Treaty but none of the amended Acts or separate treatises);
Ruch (Both Orc and Goblin Membership);
and when Tuth split into two Realms,
Lithar.

These became known as the Confederation or the Six Realms of Thardferr.

     With the signing of the Treaty of Confederation by the signature member realms, the Confederation Government gained authority over all the Realms and so must remain unbiased and act on an even and equal basis with all six.  So far it has been able to do this, though the human dominated Confederacy leadership has, at times, not been entirely fair to the elves or Edilar.  This is mostly the fault of Edilar, due to its isolationist attitudes and differing perspective on history and the continent of Thardferr as a whole.
Government Structure      The Confederation links the six signature Realms under a single Emperor. The Emperor has control over the entirety of Thardferr.  The Emperor has the power to do what ever he sees fit to preserve and protect Thardferr.  But the Emperor's actions and decrees are monitored by the rulers of each Realm, who also act as his counselors. The Emperor is free to make any decision on his own, but most of the time he will seek the advise of the Diametry Council on any decisions of import.
     The Diametry Council is made up of 7 members.  They are not the rulers of each Realm, but are appointed by them.  The Current Diametry Council includes:
Torin Brand, a human and the current acting Emperor of Thardferr and the Confederation;
Celedrian Ediak, a human paladin and the leader of the Order of Pace;
Gofrid Tiletrose, a gnome, chosen by the People of Alderd to represent them because of his great mastery of speech and keen mind;
Miar Brokentooth, an orc who was chosen by the Confederation Leadership to represent their race because he was the most even tempered of the clan chieftains with which they had met;
Terrana Forgehand, A dwarven female, the only woman in the council, chosen by the People of Khardfee to represent them because of her high blacksmithing skill and her very long beard, proving her to be wise and respectable;
and
Ninion, a Gold Dragon who lives in the Icy Mountains.  Ninion has proven himself a great ally in time of war and showed his trust in the people of Thardferr by presenting a dragon's egg to a previous Emperor many hundreds of years ago. Known to be at least 1330 years old, Ninion is considered the wisest living creature within Thardferr today. He will come when needed by the Council and will at times agree to speak with others and aid them with information if they are proven to be of good and just nature.

     There is usually a representative of Edilar, an elf who of great age who has the purpose of keeping relations between Edilar and the rest of the Confederation on good terms.  But the last Speaker for the Elves, Eldo, was assassinated, and the elves removed themselves from the Confederation.  After fighting a civil war and then a War of Liberation to free themselves from the betrayal and invasion of Edilar instigated by their King, Morlan Barden, the elves may petition to once again become a part of the Confederation as they seek aid in rebuilding their Realm.

     The Currently acting Emperor is Lord Torin Brand, though his Coronation was cut short by the chaos surrounding Eldo's assassination, and he has not yet be crowned Emperor.  The Family Brand has held the position of Emperor since the beginnings of the Confederation.  Lord Torin Brand has earned great respect of the People of Thardferr and is considered to be one of the best Emperors Thardferr has ever had. He possesses a magical artifact called simply the Golden Rod which protects him and the empire he rules from attack by outside forces.
