| Relations | Alderd for ages has been the link between
the elves of Edilar and the dwarves of Khardfee. In this they became
the traders that traveled the realms and united the two in peaceful relations.
With the coming of humans to Thardferr they quickly began to trade with
them as well and again became the go between for the other races.
The gnomes of Alderd even trade and work with the halflings, goblins and
orcs of Ruch. They seem to have no partiality between any race and
so have become trusted allies to all. As such they have the best
relations with all races of Thardferr and being a signature Realm of the
Confederation are given free movement and the ability to live and trade
in all six Realms.
At least they had free access until recently when wars between the orcs of Ruch and the dwarves of Khardfee made trade and travel in those realms difficult. Also the borders of Edilar were once again closed for a year just recently, cutting off all access to the gnomes. Since there has been an end to conflict within Edilar and the borders seem no longer to be closed, the gnome traders of Alderd may once again be allowed in as the elves seek aid to help rebuild after their internal wars. |
| Government Structure | The gnomes of Alderd have a monarchy.
The ruling system consist of a king and a small group of counselors. Most
of the gnome kings have been good, helping the people and promoting what
was best for all of Alderd, resulting in great benefits for the kingdom.
In general the king is seen as the father of a large family, guiding it
with compassion but able to discipline at need.
The lack of conflict with their neighbors allowed the gnomes to have an uninterrupted time of peace which allowed them to build a more complex infrastructure and a higher level of technology than most of the rest of Thardferr. This carries over into their government and the king has advisors to aid him in making decisions for the kingdom. The three main advisors are alled his council and are those pertaining to the state of invention in the Realm that deals with most all inovations and infrastructure of Alderd, an ambassador to the Realms that keeps him advised of the state of the other kingdoms of Thardferr and a military advisor that keeps the kingdom at readiness for war. Even though the gnomes are not fond of conflict, they know that sometimes a person must fight to protect their peace. The king, Adetralien Le Petit, makes most of the important decisions for the Realm, but will not hesitate to ask his council for help. His counselors mostly help him in commerce and with external matters of the Realm. In most matters dealing with the people of Alderd and the concerns at home, Adetralien has full authority and will never do anything to harm what he sees as his family. When the king does need some advise he turns to these three who he has appointed his council: Micrdo Iselwink Military AdvisorThe king still makes all decisions after hearing the advise of his councilors, sometimes going against their advise. But the councilors have never felt slighted or even thought to plot against the king. The king is well respected and considered a fine and wise monarch. The government of Alderd does not stop there. There are many lower level officiates in change of all sorts of bureaus and secretariats. If something is important enough to be discussed by more than a dozen gnomes then a person will be put in charge of administering and reporting about it. Only the gnomes, and those who have decided to live in Alderd for a great amount of time, can ever get a sense of this complicated bureaucracy. At need the king or his council will use the lower offices to gain what information they need to decide or report on any matters of state. |
